Oyster Hatcheries
At present one commercial hatchery is producing Select Oyster Co lines of stock.
Southern Cross Shellfish established a hatchery at Tomaree Point in Port Stephens NSW and commenced production with some small runs in late 2008. They are currently working with a run of Winter Mortality Resistant SOCo stock for supply to industry.

A new hatchery has also recently opened on the south coast and is currently doing a run of angasi oysters. More details regarding this hatchery will be available shortly
Sadly New Tech Aquaculture at Hervey Bay in Qld has closed it's doors. The Select Oyster Company acknowledges the contribution Nik and Chalad have made to the successful commercial supply of Sydney Rock Oyster seed to the Industry in NSW and Qld.
NSW Department of Industry and Innovation continues to reproduce the brood lines in close consultation with Select Oyster Company at the Port Stephens Research Centre. From time to time excess stock from these runs is available to industry through the Company. Watch the Latest News section for advice re availability.
January will see the Research Station at Port Stephens doing hatchery runs of wildcaught stock, some contributed by growers (farmers favourites!) from various estuaries along the coast. The aim is to establish 30 families which will become part of the CRC conditioning project, and part of a greater number of families which will include some selected from current broodstock holdings.
