Estuary Survey
Date: 22/12/2009
Brief Description:
Highly regarded industry identity, Bob Drake seeks information from Producers.
Description:
In response to concerns raised by some growers, Select Oyster Company will be conducting a survey in various estuaries on both the North and South coasts to gather information regarding on farm performance and marketability of the SOCo oyster. This survey is designed to give a snapshot of the oyster condition under different growing methods in different estuaries at a time when most growers would expect their oysters to be in good condition.
Well known industry identity, Bob Drake, from Georges River, will be undertaking the 'on farm' part of the survey for the Select Oyster Company and is contacting growers in January 2010.
Bob, who has been 'playing' with oysters since he was 14, is very keen to observe and discuss the diversity of growing methods which Producers of all scales of operation are employing to handle the hatchery bred stock, and the results they are obtaining, be they favourable or not.
SOCo directors ask that you support Bob in his efforts. The information he collects will provide vital insight and will affect future directions of the breeding program as it continues to strive to achieve it's potential to produce measurable commercial benefits to our industry.
