Select Oyster Company P/L (SOCo) is the commercial arm that manages and commercialises the genetics behind the Sydney Rock Oyster selective breeding program for the Australian oyster industry.
SOCo is owned by the industry, administered by NSW Farmers Association, a not for profit body. SOCo was established in 2004 by the oyster industry of NSW.
The breeding program was started in 1990 by NSW Department of Primary Industries Fisheries (NSW DPI) which today provides Sydney Rock Oysters that have been selected for fast growth, disease resistance, shape and condition performance to the NSW industry. SOCo partner with NSW DPI, our operational breeder, to ensure the breeding program targets industry priorities, and improves at each generation.
The Board of Directors are elected from the industry. They are charged with determining the future direction of the Company, and, in conjunction with NSW Department of Primary Industries, the Sydney Rock Oyster Breeding Program.
